Proving the power of the regional ambition was possible through the challenge provided by the Infuse programme delivered in late 2024 into 2025.Ā  The concept of leveraging a flexible, secureĀ data platform in a mission-oriented, collaborative initiative aiming to address regional societal and economic challenges.

The Challenge

"How can we support a just transition to net zero within public sector transportation across the Cardiff Capital Region?"

With sustainability high on every agenda, working in this space offers a significant opportunity to collaborate through bringing together data, community expertise, strategic platforms, and policy to co-create digital solutions that support public services and regional development goals.Ā Ā 

Leveraging Data

Working with a trusted platform partner, Configur (www.goconfigur.com) the focus in this case is to prove the hypothesis of the power of the ecosystem within a mission based programme was to bring to bear the power of data to support, inform and empower the outcomes of each proposition from the cohort.Ā 

Where this is particularly powerful, is when regional assets such as Transport for Wales, ONS and other publicly available data sources, can be leveraged to support multiple outcomes.Ā  The power of data is not its use in isolation, where you derive true value is understanding how the value of data you have access to can be used for multiple uses, and combined to create a powerful, more detailed set of analysis and visualisations.Ā  This allows for a more sustainable use of data, based on understanding, value and outcomes, reducing your cost and resources.

Essentially, taking a core data set and combining with others, propels the narrative, expands on the opportunity and provides the evidential, factual support that often is missing from business cases that are requesting public support, public funding and inspiring leaders to invest.

Active Travel Mapping

Objective: Support sustainable transport infrastructure planning.

  • TfW active travel routes (current/future)

  • Population density, commuting patterns

  • Topography (accessibility)

  • Pollution, public health, and opinion data

Outcomes:

  • Prioritisation of high-impact travel investments

  • Inclusive travel planning (disabled access)

  • Validation of Net Zero transport policies
